A one-day journey through the text of Dante’s
Divine Comedy. A first session on Dante’s general cosmology through the three realms of the afterlife, on Dante’s life and work and on the overall shape of the printed tradition. Then three more sessions devoted to the Inferno, the Purgatorio and the Paradiso, with a visual, linguistic and iconographic account of each canticle in turn, a discussion of the ideas governing each canticle, and further aspects of the textual
tradition. Finally, an open forum. Readings will be in Italian and English, with the opportunity to view rare and early editions from the Dante Collection of UCL Library Special Collections
